Summary
K-Boom! is an explosive grid-based puzzle game developed and published by BackToBits Studio, featuring a playable demo and upcoming commercial release on Steam.
Players guide Camilo the chameleon through hazardous test chambers by strategically planting directional bombs, triggering chain reactions, and manipulating movable obstacles. The gameplay blends rigorous spatial puzzle logic with high-impact arcade game feel.
Responsibilities
- Coding team leader: Coordinated and revised all code implementations of the game while making sure the systems where finished accorded to our timelines.
- Dialogue system: Crafted and integrated the whole dialogue system of the game using .ink files and tag parsing to trigger control the dialogue flow.
- Controller support: Coded the whole controller support system and UI glyph changes to accomodate controller players.
- Player controller & kinematics: Crafted responsive movement mechanics.
- Puzzle elements: Coded several puzzle elements and their intended reactions to the bombs.
- Custom production tooling: Architected and engineered the custom in-engine level editor used by the design team to produce, validate, and tune all puzzle chambers in the game.
Current Status & Reception
- Steam page & Public demo: Published on Steam to gather wishlists with a publicly playable demo (K-Boom! Demo).
- Festival Showcases: Exhibited at major Spanish video game events, including SAGA (Saló del Gaming de Barcelona) and the Guerrilla Game Festival, drawing long queues of playtesters.
- Player Reception: Praised by players and event attendees for its responsive feel, polished audiovisual juice, and satisfying puzzle design curve.
